Why a zodiac talk works

Culture that every guest can take part in

The Chinese zodiac is one of the few traditions that everyone in the room already has a connection to: each person has an animal sign, and each year has a story. A good talk uses that entry point to explain where the zodiac and BaZi come from, what the new year's sign traditionally stands for, and why the customs of the season look the way they do.

The aim is cultural understanding and a shared, enjoyable moment, not fortune-telling for the audience. Nothing in these sessions replaces medical, legal, financial or psychological advice, and no outcome is promised.

Formats

Three ways to bring the zodiac into your event

Keynote talk

The Year of the Goat, explained

A 30 to 60 minute talk on the zodiac animal of the year, the Five Phases behind it, and the customs of Chinese New Year, with time for questions. Works as the cultural centrepiece of a corporate celebration or community gathering.

Best for: year-end parties, cultural days, staff events

Interactive zodiac segment

Short, light readings for guests

Guests share their birth year and animal sign and receive a brief, light-hearted explanation of what the sign and the coming year traditionally represent. Runs as a booth or a stage segment and keeps a large room engaged.

Best for: receptions, galas, open-house formats

Workshop or class

From the zodiac to the I Ching

A longer, hands-on session for groups who want to go deeper: how BaZi reads a birth chart, what yin-yang and the Five Phases mean, and how the I Ching is read responsibly. Suited to schools, universities and learning-focused teams.

Best for: classrooms, lunch-and-learns, cultural programs

Program design

Beyond one talk: shaping the cultural content of your event

If your event is built around Chinese New Year, Benny can help design the cultural program as a whole: the theme of the year, which customs and symbols to feature and how to explain them, where an interactive segment fits, and what guests take home. Venue, catering and production stay with your team or event company; where a full production partner is needed, this can be arranged on request.

  • ThemeThe zodiac sign and Five-Phase character of the year, told accurately and accessibly.
  • Customs and symbolsRed envelopes, couplets, foods and greetings, with the meaning behind each.
  • Audience momentsInteractive zodiac readings, Q&A, or a short group exercise.
  • MaterialsA one-page zodiac guide or slides for the organizer to share afterwards.

  4. 4

    Deliver on the day

Benny arrives ahead of the slot, delivers the program and stays for questions as agreed.

Frequently asked questions

Booking a Chinese New Year speaker in Toronto

Is this fortune-telling for the audience?

No. The sessions explain the zodiac, BaZi and Chinese New Year customs as culture. Interactive segments are brief, light-hearted explanations of a sign and the year, not personal predictions, and they do not replace medical, legal, financial or psychological advice.

Which language is the talk in?

English or Mandarin, or a bilingual format for mixed audiences. Confirm the language when booking so the program can be prepared accordingly.

How long is a session and how large can the audience be?

Keynotes usually run 30 to 60 minutes; interactive segments and workshops are scheduled to fit your agenda. Formats are adapted to audience size, from a classroom to a large reception.

How far ahead should we book for Chinese New Year?

Chinese New Year 2027 is on February 6, and most organizations confirm their speaker between November and January. Earlier inquiries give more choice of dates; availability is confirmed when you write.

Can the talk be delivered virtually or outside Toronto?

Yes. Virtual talks are available for teams elsewhere in Canada. In-person sessions cover Toronto and the GTA; travel beyond the GTA can be arranged and is included in the quote.

What does it cost?

Fees are quoted per event and depend on the format, duration, audience size and travel. The quote is confirmed in writing before you book; there is no charge for an initial inquiry.

Can you help plan the whole Chinese New Year event?

Benny can design the cultural content and program flow with you. Venue, catering and production remain with your team or event company; a full production partner can be arranged on request.
